Policy and Legal Framework ComponentFarmers' capacity to care for the land is affected by the social, economic and political milieu in which they live. This DMP component addresses: • Macro, trade and agricultural sector policies that affect the dryland areas, including the consequences of trade liberalization and globalization; • A range of local institutional issues, including property rights and incentives for collective management of rangeland resources; • Returns to sustainable development investments in dryland areas; • How livelihood strategies change in response to desertification, seeking policies that might mitigate negative effects on people and communities; • The study of successes and failures to identify valuable lessons; and • The sharing of information and knowledge with policy makers to inform ongoing policy debates. |
